The B-10 was the first of the USAAF Cloth flight jackets. It was introduced in 1943 to replace the Type A2 when Hap Arnold decided that leather was a "luxury" flight crews could do without.
Pike Brothers Superior Garments of Germany have replicated the styling of this historic Flight Jacket but they've heavily over engineered their version of the USAAF issue jacket, indeed it would be hard to find a warmer jacket for the months (and years) ahead.
While we offer our own historically correct Type B-10 using the same materials, same patterns, same wool jersey as the original which are very popular with military enthusiasts, we are sure there are others with no real interest in Militaria who would regard this jacket for what it is, a superb, real heavy duty, foul weather jacket with more than a passing nod to the original.
Pike Brothers jacket uses a particularly heavy Sateen Cotton exterior, considerably heavier than the original Gabardine but in the same shade of Green as the WW2 originals, thick ultra warm wool lining, much heavier than the original Alpaca linings, genuine Mouton collar in an authentic colour, heavy duty knitted cuffs and waistband and a proper WW2 style Triple Marked Talon zipper
The B-10 was a military jacket that was also very popular as an easy to wear civilian jacket. It continues to influence civilian work and casual jackets today, none more successfully that this fine version.
Pike Brothers jackets seem to fit a bit larger than the ticket size, our advice would be to order a size smaller than usual, unless it's going to be worn with a thick sweater underneath, in which case I can only suggest flitting to the Arctic Circle!
