We are delighted to announce the latest addition to our new Premier Range of Superior Limited Edition leather jackets.
This, the fourth jacket in this range, is basically a replica of the jacket worn by Toby Maguire in his role as Red Pollard in the film Sea Biscuit. Ever since the film was released legend had it that Aero had made the film jacket, we didn't, we denied it but still the story rolls on. We believe it's an original early 1930s jacket, there is a styling clue that suggests it might be a Levi Jacket but we don't want to kick start the debate.
Our recreation of the film jacket is identical in every minute detail, it was a pleasure watching the brilliant film a few times in order to pick up those fine details that can't be seen on the actual film jacket in it's display in the Hollywood Movies Costumes and Props Museum.
ABOUT THE PREMIER RANGE
For the last couple of years we've been experimenting with a whole new cut, something different yet faithful to the period that we've always worked within.
Earlier this year we hit pay dirt in the form of an old 1920s Mackinaw belonging to our founder that had finally given up the ghost. The cut of this old wool coat was amazing and once the remains were carefully dismantled and transferred onto card it became obvious that it could be easily converted to accept a zipper.
From day one the cut wowed everyone, and within the factory the term "Premium" was used to describe the cut but word of this new pattern soon got out on the internet, well before we decided what to do with the new pattern.
The shape, while classic late 1920s, has actually benefitted from the addition of a zipper, the standard Premier collar is quite different from our old collar, but very similar to the Sea Biscuit collar so we didn't have to alter it much at all for this jacket. Although the armholes are cut much higher than any previous Aero jacket, the sleeves are very comfortable and the combination of both gives a very flattering line without any bats-wing effect, the bane of so many leather jackets.
