Our 1940s raglan sleeve letterman jacket is made in the iconic post-WW2 wool and horsehide baseball jacket style. This classic varsity jacket is available in three base wool colours: black, green and navy. You can choose any of these three colours (along with your preferred knit and leather type) to create a custom leather letterman jacket that's entirely your own.
This is a truly authentic 1940s varsity jacket. Each one is hand-cut from heavy duty 21oz melton wool and fitted with single-width pure wool striped ribbed jersey, which is far more typical of the era than the usual double-thickness jersey that is de rigueur these days. The shawl collar is also unique to the era.
The stylish raglan horsehide leather sleeves (again typical of the 1940s) are very rare in modern reproductions, as are the period-correct double folded cuffs.
All in all, we've recreated a true classic from the 1940s without even the merest hint of compromise. And to top it all off, we have used contrasting colour studs. A small number of vintage chenille patches are also available; these are mostly Canadian-made and date from the 1960s to the 1980s, but are identical in style to those from the 1940s. Please contact the Aero team for further information.
This jacket is a 1940s-inspired design which offers a fit with quite a bit of room around the body and shoulder with a taper to the waist.
The perceived ‘correct’ fit of this garment was generally more blousy than modern sizing, so we typically recommend selecting your usual size for this style to achieve the intended relaxed fit, although many choose to size down for a more modern fitted look.
