In the 1950s a Horsehide jacket was a practical garment, mainly worn by blue collar workers employed in transportation, freight-related industries and other hands on manual trades. Most of these workers were union members, affiliated to a Teamster Local so the name "Teamster" seemed ideal for this typical 1950s working man's button closing jacket which has been designed for the great outdoors with extra length for warmth and practicality.
Features include five buttons to close the jacket from the hem to the neck when the weather determines, a bi-swing back for ease of movement over a stitched on half belt, two hand warmer side pockets with heavy cotton linings, adjustable straps at the waist. Also features typical American style button cuffs while the sleeves are lined in durable cotton drill with a button fastening cuff for extra winter warmth
This jacket is a 1950s inspired design which offers a fit with quite a bit of room around the body which was typical of the more relaxed fitting styles of this era, however it does have a bit of a taper towards the waist and hem so not as roomy around the body as some other 1950s cuts.
Additionally, the jacket’s side adjusters can be cinched in at the natural waist to provide a more fitted look around the waist while retaining room around the chest and shoulders, or alternatively, they can be loosened out to provide more room for layering.
The perceived ‘correct’ fit of the 1950s was generally more ‘oversized’ than modern sizing, so we typically recommend either selecting your usual size for this style to achieve the intended ‘1950s’ relaxed fit, although many choose to size down for a more modern fitted look. However, sizing down should be discussed with our team so they can take the style’s taper into account.
