The Type B-3 was standardised on May 29th 1933, and remained virtually unaltered until it's discontinuation in 1943 although each original maker's B-3 had their own nuances. We offer two Aero versions, each manufactured to exact Military Specifications for their respective 1942 contracts, this, the later 42-22899-P has a three piece upper back over a narrow waistband while originals of the earlier 42-5100P contract has a two piece back panel configuration.
Reducing the size of panels in order to conserve raw materials became a common practice with sheepskin flight jackets on both sides of The Atlantic as the war drew on and these slight variations proved acceptable to the USAAF. Although the B-3 was discontinued by the USAAF on the 23rd of May 1943, the Aero Leather 42-5110-P is still made to the identical original specification and standards as the WW2 Army Air Corps garments, many of which are still going strong after nearly 70 years of wear and our current jacket should give an equal length of service.
Aero Leather Clothing 42-22899-P uses the correct B-3 weight heavy Shearling Sheepskin with extra strong Horsehide sleeve and seam overlays for extra protection, single map pocket on the right hand side and heavy leather straps with 3-way stud collar closure for use in foul weather to enable the jacket to provide added protection to the lower part of the face. We use the correct Japanese made replica WW2 Talon zipper on wide herringbone cotton tape, alloy buckles recast from originals and a woven label identical to the WW2 originals
The Type B-3 is a relaxed-fitting larger sheepskin jacket. It has extra room in the back for ease of movement and belts on the side for cinching in at the hem to keep out the cold.
We generally recommend that customers order their usual size (normally the one closest to their relaxed chest measurement), but many customers like to size down for a closer fit.
